The past year has been a challenging time for anyone working in hospitality, but hospitality jobs in Australia are now starting to be advertised once again. Whether you are looking for barista jobs, chef jobs, or work in a café, store, or restaurant, today we’re going to share a range of resources that can help anyone when searching for hospitality jobs in Sydney and across Australia. Keep reading to learn about some of the best resources that are available for job hunting in Australia.
While you probably already use Facebook for keeping in touch with your friends and family, it’s become one of the top tools for searching for jobs today. The great news is that Facebook is free for anyone to use, and groups such as “Sydney Hospitality Job-Waiter/Cook/Chef/Bar Staff/Barista” have thousands of active members. One of the biggest issues with this type of platform is having to sift through hundreds of job postings without a filter, unlike regular job boards. You also want to be very wary when using Facebook and giving out your personal information, as with any social media platform. However, it can be a good tool to start your job hunt, and some companies only post their jobs on Facebook instead of using job boards they may have to pay for.
SEEK is a popular job board for individuals looking for hospitality jobs in Sydney and across Australia. It showcases a wide range of jobs from international companies, and they aim to help individuals find fulfilling and productive work. The company is based in Australia, so in comparison to other similar job boards, you’ll find that they have a strong understanding of the Australian job market.
We found this site to offer a wide range of jobs, including part-time jobs in Sydney, but it can take quite a bit of time and effort to go through all the opportunities on offer. Especially if you are looking for a more specialist role, it may take quite a while to find the right job for you. As a popular job board, you’ll also find that roles on here receive dozens of applications, so you’ll want to make sure you craft the perfect application to stand out from other applicants.
For anyone looking for temporary or casual work, Sidekicker is a good place to continue your hunt for hospitality jobs. You can download their app and get sent jobs directly to your mobile. Whether you are looking to work just a few hours a week or full-time hours, you can specify this in your profile. We found Sidekicker to be a good option for anyone who regularly gets bored at work, as you’ll find there are diverse opportunities available. However, if you are looking for steady employment, such as full-time chef jobs in Sydney, this probably isn’t the best site for your needs.
Indeed is one of the world’s most well-known job hunting sites, which means it attracts a wide selection of opportunities. You’ll need to spend some time learning to navigate the site and how to use the filters in order to have the best experience. While the site has thousands of barista jobs and cafe jobs, we found that you need a lot of patience to sift through the opportunities, as many aren’t as good as they may look from a first glimpse. The application process is usually completed directly on the site, which means getting called for an interview can be very challenging when your application is lost within hundreds of others.
Jora Local requires you to register and create a profile before starting your job hunt. You’ll then be matched to local jobs based on your availability and experience. As you can see, this does add a little time to the start of the process when hunting for hospitality jobs but often results in good matches for part-time jobs in Sydney or your home city. One of the issues we found with the site is that you couldn’t upload a resume and had to rely on the digital profile you complete. You’ll need to spend time adding more information about yourself to each application to ensure you offer hiring companies everything they need to know.
For anyone looking for barista jobs or cafe jobs, Barcats is a good option to add to your list of hospitality jobs sites. However, we found the selection of jobs to be much more limited on this site, and when you apply some filters, you may even end up with zero jobs to apply for. It’s worth checking out once a week or so, but it isn’t a site we’d recommend as your primary job search site.
If you are looking for a new way to search for hospitality jobs, check out Sample. It’s launching in Australia this September and is set to change the way you think about looking for jobs in Sydney and across the country. We know that job hunting can be incredibly lonely, so you’ll find a community group where you can chat with other applicants about your job hunt and share advice and tips. It’s a great way to help find each other faster and showcase your skills.
When you sign up for Sample, you’ll create a personal profile, so you’ll never need to update your resume again. The thing that makes this profile stand out is that it also includes video stories.
